The other week I just HAD to sit down and re-watch Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs… mainly because I’d been asked to preach on the goodness of work at Restoration and all I could hear was the song ...
“Heigh-ho, heigh-ho
It's off to work we go
We keep on singing all day long
Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho”
and you remember when they hold that final note… heigh - hooooooooo ...
Anyway, the preacher’s lot is not to stop where they start so I pushed a little harder :) though I still can’t stop humming that tune….
Preparing a sermon so often scratches the preacher where they itch - and so it was so good to be forced to slow down, to pray and muse about what is so good about work. I had to stick to the topic so I couldn’t talk about why it was annoying, or hard …. though I’d find myself saying ‘oh but ‘ so often… instead I had to spend a week or two marinating on the goodness of work and it turned out to be deeply encouraging to my soul!
To be reminded of why work is a gift from God for our characters, for our connections to others and then the deep joy of jumping into God’s creativity…. perhaps you’ll enjoy listening to ‘A God-gift? — and then shoot me some questions!
I’d love to talk about it more!
